Taking Responsibility for My Happiness

My patient who prefers to remain anonymous wrote this to me today. We agreed that it was important to share…

” I’m taking responsibility for my own happiness. I can choose how I react to situations as they happen. I can let things bring me down, defeat me, decide I can’t do something, give up, continue to think I’m worthless
or
I can choose to handle whatever it is to the best of my ability, work through it, survive, and regarding all of the things I beat myself up over, and the self loathing and hate – choose to love and respect myself – finally treat myself like I love and respect myself <—–this sounds warm and fuzzy and great but in reality, the negativity is going to be a hard habit to break but I’m going to try.”
